The Things We Know

Was supervising a staff member at the shelter tonight. She let a resident go out to give his girlfriend some money. Innocent, right? Probably. But....

"You should have the girlfriend come into the office. Why can't he just hand her the money in here?" I asked. "This is a great time for him to shoot up in the car having had his girlfriend bring it to him."

It suddenly dawned on me that I am wiser in ways that I never expected.

Do all of the homeless people you serve suffer from drug addiction or is this just one you're aware of? Or does your wisdom assume that they do and treat them accordingly? Presumed guilt. I wonder if your not projecting your own addictions and sneaky ways.

Anonymous, You've never been a supervisor before, right? The point was training new staff how three people can monitor over 70 people fairly and for the safety of everyone. You say I assume use, but your assumption is incorrect; all I said was that it would be a good time to use. That was the training aspect.
If you are local, come on over and volunteer!
